new england & the northeast
The place I still feel most at home is on a cool evening along the waters edge in Casco Bay. So many beautiful little islands, some stone jagged and foreboding, others placid woods and peaceful shores. Lobstermen's colorful buoys bobbing strung above undersea ledges marking each pots' hunting grounds. The large container ships mingling in harbor traffic alongside punts and dinghys. The old lighthouses and forts dotting rocky inlets, each standing as monuments to our relationships with the sea, spanning centuries, bringing bounty along with it channels of war and conquest, this civilization has built along the shores of the world.
