During the Maine winters, at the gulf's edge, the estuaries freeze into thick sheets that break apart and drift atop the cold waves. As the moon releases her grasp the fragments of ice heave, splinter, and converge. As the moon pulls again on the sea the ice is swept aground like a fisherman's punt after hurricane.
